Ballast Point Sea Rose Tart Cherry Wheat Ale
Brewery: Ballast Point, California, US
Beer: Sea Rose
Style: Wheat Ale
Ballast Point Sea Rose Tart Cherry Wheat Ale pours a hazy golden, apricot colour with a rose gold hue. White frothy head dissipates quickly. On the nose, it opens with powdery rose blush aromas, white bread, and hints of berries. On the palate, the cherry flavour is more pronounced, both sour and sweet cherries and notes of raspberries and pomegranate. Low to medium body with a clean, refreshing mouthfeel and a prickly carbonation. Finish is dry, clean and crisp, and slightly tart. Aftertaste is more on the sweet side, like a combination of sour and sweet cherries covered in custard sugar.
I was surprised by the bad reviews I read on beeradvocate.com. I guess that people were expecting this beer to be more like a Belgian wit, or Hefeweizen. Personally, I would say this beer leans more towards a Berliner Weiss, except the heavy carbonation. Very easy drinking and refreshing. Great for hot summer days!
